This workshop will be an amazing artistic journey of growth and discovery as you learn heaps about how to create Inspirational and expressive paintings filled with light and life. Create and develop ideas which you will apply in your paintings at the workshop. Join Don’s ‘Dynamic & Expressive Painting’ workshop and he will explain and show you how he does it so you can be creating fantastic and inspired paintings sooner. Apply Don’s easy to learn methods and discover how you can include them into your own paintings. Live “In Class” painting demonstrations by Don that you can follow with complete confidence. Don is there to support and guide you every step of the way. Fun,
generous and full of great painting tips and tricks.

Day #1

Morning: Quick overview of workshop with introduction and purpose
* Begin with exploring principles for creating a good painting
* Preparation tools like concepts, composition, planning,colour choices
* How to get the best from photo reference and how to use
– what to include, what to leave out and why.?
* Students create small studies using these principles and techniques
Afternoon: Quick revision of morning
* I do demonstration to illustrate process and techniques being applied
* All students now complete their own painting exercise

Day #2

Morning: Quick overview of workshop today and purpose
* Begin with quick review of items brought by students
* Start applying preparation tools like concepts, composition, planning,
colour choices to a small design which will be applied in a larger painting
* Review best practice and use of photo reference
* Students create their own painting applying all these principles and ideas
Afternoon: Quick revision of morning
* I do demonstration to illustrate process and techniques being applied
* All students now complete their own painting
Homework: To do at home before next workshop

Day #3

* Set students a project to do at home in preparation for Day #3 – (Can be done as a team)
* Research a second favourite subject or theme that uses an unusual approach. Then find an
artist or artists who are already doing this or similar in their paintings. Select 3 – 5 painting
from this artist or artists and do prints of those paintings to bring to next workshop. Also find
photo reference that they can use to create their own painting in the style of their favourite
artist chosen. Can use same reference used in Day #2 but using new technique and style
• Write a short overview of why you have chosen this subject, the artist and their works

Morning:

* Start by describing colour choices for painting purposes
* Create 1 small study using Complimentary colour scheme
* Review results – Now apply that colour scheme into a
larger painting
Afternoon: Quick revision of morning
* I do demonstration to illustrate process and techniques
* All students now complete their own painting

Day #4

Morning: Quick overview of workshop today and purpose
* Review current understanding of colour choices for painting purposes
* Create 1 small study using Analagous colour scheme
* Review results – Now apply that colour scheme into a larger painting
Afternoon: Quick revision of morning
* I do demonstration to illustrate process and techniques
* All students now complete their own painting

Day #5

Morning: Quick overview of workshop today and purpose
* Review students choices, plan and design for painting today
* Begin a larger painting to be completed today
Afternoon: Quick revision of morning
* I do demonstration to illustrate process and techniques
* All students complete their own painting
• Review of all 5 days – results achieved via impromptu exhibition of all paintings done
